Cow Dung May Soon Power Computers!

  • Cow manure may soon be used as a source of energy to power data centers or Internet in the future.
  • Hewlett – Packard has released a study called “Design of Farm Waste – Driven Supply Side Infrastructure for Data Centers” that draws attention to biogas energy created from cow dung.
  • The study encourages dairy farmers to rent out land and power to technology companies, reports Discovery News. Planet Green TV channel explained the process of transforming cow manure to bio-fuel called biogas.
  • In this process, manure is first collected from the cows, and put under an anaerobic ligestion process, releasing methane gas.
  • This gas can be used as natural gas or diesel fuel in generators that produce electricity.
  • It apparently takes 10,000 cows to produce enough manure to power a small computer centre for a bank.
The Importance of Cow

The Vedic scriptures recommend that human beings should respect the cow as our mother who nurture us during our life.  She is the personification of mildness and religion.

Our scriptures identify the cow as the 'Mother' of all civilization, its milk nurturing the population. The gift of a cow is applauded as the highest kind of gift.

The milk of a cow is believed to promote sattvic "purifying" qualities. The ghee (clarified butter) from the milk of a cow is used in ceremonies and in preparing religious food.

Cow dung is used as fertilizer, as a fuel and as a disinfectant in homes. Modern science acknowledge that the smoke from cow dung is a powerful disinfectant and an anti-pollutant. Its urine is also used for religious rituals as well as medicinal purposes.
The supreme purificatory material, panchagavya, was a mixture of five products of the cow, namely milk, curd, ghee urine and dung. There is nothing that is more sacred or sanctifying than cows. these kind animals serves mankind in many forms and right from its birth till its end.

"COW" worshipped as Kamadhenu by Hindus, symbolizes prosperity and wealth in the family. People the cow & touch her, seeing Goddess Lakshmi in the forms of cow. Cow is called - A Universal Mother. So, it is our primary duty to protect and nurture them at any cost.

  • As described in the Brahma Samhita (surabhi apbipalayantam), Lord Sri Krishna on His planet, Goloka Vrindavana, engages in tending the surabhi cows. These cows are the Lord's pet animals. (Srimad Bhagavatam 8.8.2 purport)
  • Kamadhenu is also well-known through its other five forms: Nanda, Sunanda, Surabhi, Susheela and Sumana. Mythologically, Brahma (the creator) created the brahmins (priests) and the cow at the same time, the Brahmins were to recite the religious scriptures while the cow was to afford ghee (clarified butter) for offerings in religious sacrifices.

  • Brahma also affirmed it to be the mother of gods, ought to be worshipped and anybody who killed a cow or allows another to kill it, was deemed to rot in hell, for as many years as there are hair upon his body.
